If I have to make a recommendation, ladies, there’s nothing that will get your heart pumping more than Ryan Gosling in Drive. It was hot, excellently-acted, and had Gosling beating a guy to a pulp right after a toe-curling kiss with Carey Mulligan.

Since I’ve seen Drive already, though, I was thinking I should catch Ghost Rider just because I saw the first one and I’m nothing if not a glutton for punishment. Hunger Games will not be out in about four more weeks, so I just have to content myself with whatever swill comes out until then. Of course, I can just spend the weekend enjoying the torrid affair I have with my Kindle. Doesn’t cost much and does not even require me to get out of the house.

Ah, decisions. I’m amazed at how much excitement I have in my life. *hits table with head*

December 25 – January 3 Bacolod and Iloilo City Cinema Schedule

Standard

I know no one’s sitting around waiting with bated breath for my posts, but I still feel bad that I wasn’t able to get anything up last week. Offline life, you know. It actually does exist.

Anyway, nothing much to report on the movie schedule front since from Christmas Day until January 3 next year, you have seven choices of Metro Manila Film Fest movies to watch in theaters.

Aiai delas Alas is eye and ear raping people in Enteng ng Ina Mo. Nobody knows why this talent-less waste of space is still being given projects and as long as I’m not going to be forced watching those projects, I don’t give two shits.

The Bong Revilla vehicle Panday and the ‘amazing’ *gag* special effects it has is also on. Have you guys seen Bong Revilla on Bubble Gang last Friday? Wasn’t he giving out such strong pedo bear vibes with the way he looked at Sam Pinto? (I know Sam is no longer a minor, but with the age difference, it’s pretty much the same thing.) Zip up your fly, Senator. You’re embarrassing yourself. Well, more so than usual.

Dingdong Dantes, Angelica Panganiban, and Kris Aquino’s constipated face that constitutes acting are in Segunda Mano, a movie which – as Jessica Zafra puts it – is as second rate as its title promises.

The 95th Shake Rattle and Roll incarnation joins the MMFF lineup again this year. The last Shake movie I watched was the one with Undin and loved every minute of it. I dunno how things stand twenty thousand years later, though, so let’s just assume people still die in these movies and there’s a monster or two involved.

The Asiong Salonga story is also part of the festival and apparently garnered the most awards. It stars George Estregan Jr. and was shot in black and white. You put George Estregan Jr in black and white and you will get the Best Picture award. No questions asked.

Judy Ann Santos and Eugene Domingo are in My House Husband. I won’t watch the movie, but I like the two ladies so I’ll shut up about this. You go, girls.

The lowest earning MMFF entry is Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow. A movie that stars the katulong-abusing has-been who people call Maricel Soriano. I think Gabby Concepcion and some other people are also in this movie, but with the way it’s been promoted, you wouldn’t know anyone but Soriano is in it.

So those are your choices. If you want a recommendation, I’d suggest waiting until next year when Sherlock Holmes comes out.

Enjoy this, my love, because it’s the last week of the year for foreign movies. Come Christmas Day until about the second week of 2012, it’s going to be Metro Manila Film Festival galore. So that plus the fact that all my favorite shows on TV are on winter hiatus, it seems like I should be hibernating for at least a month. What the fuck am I supposed to amuse myself  with in the coming three to four weeks? You think I should tackle gardening? Start painting perhaps? I prolly should hang out at Starbucks more often with a long stick and poke anyone who doesn’t use their inside voice.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There’s still some Mission Impossible awesomeness in store before the year ends and we all know how we need some Simon Pegg geekiness to get us through the usual lonely Christmas. And since my mother decided she’ll just wait for the DVD of Won’t Last a Day Without You instead of dragging me to the theater, no eyeraping happened last weekend. That’s some serious silver lining for you.

You notice what they did to The Adventures of Tintin? One week and it’s relegated to sharing a movie theater with another film. They each get two screenings a day, doncha know? And I blame you for this. Wait what? Yes you. If you just got off your ass and watched the movie, then SM and Rob won’t decide to take it off the schedule like they did with 100 Days of Summer. I hold you responsible for this. And if you think I should have gotten off my ass and watched the movie on its first week as well and that I’m also partly responsible, then you’d be right. I’ve been slapping myself at random moments since I saw the new sched. My mother has been asking me what’s wrong. But what does she know? She’s been obsessing about the Sarah Geronimo movie since it came out and now I have to take her. I have to admit that part of the slapping myself has to do with knowing Won’t Last A Day Without You is in my movie viewing future. Dammit.

Anyway, new epis of Suburgatory and The Big Bang Theory Later, so will get to cheer up I guess. Time for some Sheldon Cooper and Jeremy Sisto therapy.

I urge everyone to take advantage of the few weeks we have left this year for movies you don’t regret spending money on because come Christmas Day – until a couple of weeks into the new year – you’ll have no option  but to choose which Metro Manila Film Fest movie sucks the least just so you can spend a couple of hours in the theater. Apart from Tintin, we still have Mickey Rourke in Immortals, Arthur Christmas, and the newest Mission Impossible. Oh, and New Year’s Eve as well, but if it’s anything like Valentine’s Day, I’d rather wait for Enteng ng Ina Mo. At least with that movie, I’ll be eye-raped by a Filipino filmmaker.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to start my weekend right with some homemade ice cream and The People Under the Stairs.

As you can see, the cinemas have taken pity on us and included other options for this movie weekend. Mumble and the rest of the penguins are back and the Ben Stiller-Eddiy Murphy heist flick is also on. As much as I would like to see either of the ones I mentioned, though, I have to be strong and resist since I’m still technically unemployed and should watch what I spend lest I end up losing all respect I have for myself by being the equivalent of the stereotypical loser in American movies who lives at his parents’ basement and plays with himself all day. I have nothing against playing with yourself but basements are scary.

Things should look up next week, though, so I’ll be able to catch Immortals and The Adventures of Tintin as they come out. It’s been a while since I’ve been to see Mickey Rourke and we all know how every girl needs her Mickey Rourke fix once in a while for purposes that would be a bit personal to share here. *wink*

And of course, Tintin has Edgar Wright as one of the screenwriters and both Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are in it so there’s just no way a Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy fan can miss it. The director is also some guy named Spielberg and I heard he has done some decent movies. Guess I have to see for myself.

There might be one more movie coming out next week, but I sure as hell won't spend money looking at Budoy when I can do it for free.

Happy weekend, pipol!

November 18, 19, and 20 Bacolod and Iloilo City Cinema Schedule

Standard

I don’t want to be the one who tells you this. I’d rather you find out about it somewhere else. It has to be said, though. And as much as I don’t want to cause you pain and disappointment, you just have to realize that life – while awesome in some ways with its food and coffee and Kat Denning’s boobs and the highly anticipated showing of Michael Fassbender‘s man parts – sucks big time. There will be weekends that will leave you looking up to the heavens screaming in wonder whether life is really worth the pain and diet you’re doing it for. This is one of those weekends.

The reason there is no need for this post to have separate listings of movies out this weekend is that – apart from an extended Praybeyt Benjamin and a movie that should have generated more interest but didn’t (Tresspass) – all cinemas in Iloilo and Bacolod are showing the movie version of a lonely housewife’s wet dreams.

Yes. Fans of the franchise will now get to see the pedo vampire and the shallow self-centered cow that calls itself ‘beautiful swan’ whine and sulk and do pretty much the same things they do in every fucking Twilight book and its movie incarnations.

*fans herself*

The good thing about this weekend, fortunately, is Robinsons Bacolod will be hosting the Havaianas Make Your Own thingy. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been itching to get a pair of slippers that will cost me almost as much as one month worth of postpaid internet service fee and will only be good to wear on the beach or while walking the dog – absolutely no place that will justify its price.

I’ll be one of the firsts there tomorrow so if you need to discuss the unfairness of the world and the movie choices the cinemas are giving us this weekend, just wear a pink shirt and I’ll totally ignore you.

If you’re a Twilight fan, though, and would like to poke me in eye with one of those add-ons for slippers Havaianas charge a fortune for because of the cracks I made regarding the best movie and book ever OMG!!!!!1!!1!!, I understand. Look for a skinny girl with awesome skin and long legs at Rob Bacolod tomorrow and just give me all you got. Don’t say hi or ask me anything, just start poking as soon as you see me. Again – just so we’re clear and you don’t mistake me for anyone else – I’ll be the skinny girl with the long legs. Happy hunting!

November 11, 12, and 13 Bacolod and Iloilo City Cinema Schedule

Half of this week was spent being a total bum, now the later half is being spent trying hard not to use a certain someone’s toothbrush as toilet cleaner. Actually, I’m not really trying that hard, so stay tuned.

Cinema 4                   Killer Elite (P120)

Two things. First, I noticed Something Borrowed is out at Robinsons Bacolod this weekend and I’ve already WTFed. Wasn’t it out months ago when I still wasn’t contemplating putting ants inside an underwear drawer owned by a person you probably don’t know?

Second, if you feel any attachment to any of the movies listed above, try to watch it today or tomorrow since shit will get confusing on Sunday once one or two movies get cancelled to make way for the scheduled beating of another Mexican boxer.

Third, I forgot to eat dinner so bar your doors and stock up on supplies ’cause it’s a sign of the Apocalypse. Sorry, I mean stock up on supplies and then bar your doors. It might be a bit inconvenient having to un-bar stuff you’d then have to re-bar later.

And if you want to mention that I said ‘two things’ and stated three, don’t. Go be persnickety somewhere else. I have to look for a digicam I can use to document some future prank filled with ill intent.

Just going to do some quick errands, make sure the dog is bathed and brushed, and decide what’s for lunch, then I’m going to start on that Attack the Block post I promised. I’d probably be able to write it more coherently now that it’s been a while since I last saw it, but you never know. My mind works in mysterious ways, and by mysterious I mean fucked up in the sense that I can psyche myself out without even trying.

Wish me luck, and have a great Friday!

P.S. Walking Dead review tomorrow.

Standard

Since I’m moving back home pretty soon (Yup, I’m calling Bacolod home now. Times have definitely changed.), I’ve decided to include Bacolod City cinema schedule to the Friday post. I know you’re thinking this is so kind of me and that I should get an award or something, but I’m a giver and this is just what I do.

Still haven’t seen Real Steel and probably won’t, (sob) but might get me some musketeers later. I’m still thinking whether I should spend P120 for a movie that has been critically panned everywhere despite its impressive cast, or just relive the awesomeness that was Attack the Block. Man, that movie reminded me so much of Shaun of the Dead. Will write a review (hahaha) soon as I finish watching it two more times since the only things going through my head the first time I watched it were, “Awesome. The best! Cool! Fam, believe, allow it!”

Attack the Block made me want to flood my friends’ Facebook News Feed with glowing recommendations of the movie, but I remembered Game of Thrones and how I practically had to force my friends to watch it before they actually did.

It’d be nice sometimes to discuss zombies and aliens and beheadings and British accent and Nira Park produced stuff with someone I’ve actually met. A lot of talks have been going on right now about Praybeyt Benjamin and No Other Woman, and as much as like Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis, I don’t see myself spending one minute on either movie unless there’s a possibility that Benjamin gets infected with the zombie virus, bites Cristine Reyes, which will give Anne Curtis a reason to whack Cristine’s head in with a wooden rifle borrowed from Benjamin. Now, that movie I’ll pay good money for.

Will be in Bacolod for the long weekend and fingers and toes crossed my mother doesn’t get it in her head to want to check out Vice Ganda’s movie.
